Pacific Training Institute (PTI) aims to provide the best teaching and support, appropriate for peoples of different ethnic origins. PTI helps learners to prepare for employment. PTI seeks to empower the learning of our Akonga/Tamaiti Aoga by ensuring that their mental, physical and spiritual needs are being met.

Programme Outline

This programme develops essential computing, communication and employment skills necessary to find work and do well in the modern workplace. Once you have attained work, we will support your transition into employment and provide in-work support.

Programme Costs

This fully Government funded programme is free to those eligible. A travel allowance may also be available. For further information, please either contact your Work and Income Case Manager or the PTI Administrator phone (04) 384 1069.

Course Structure

Each learner, with tutor assistance, will develop an individualised learning/job search and career plan. From this plan, learners work together in relevant groups to gain employment.  

The programme is structured to assist participants into work as soon as practicable (13 weeks max).

Support is provided to help you transition into paid employment as well as support when you are in-work.

Course Hours

Full time; Monday to Friday
9.00 am to 4:00 pm
(includes self-study time)

Training For Work Programme Eligibility

"Computing for Employment" is a "Training for Work—Pathways to Work" programme offered by Pacific Training Institute. This programme is funded by the Ministry of Social Development (Work and Income).

Programme participants will be assessed by Work and Income Case Managers using the "Likelihood of Long Term Benefit Receipt" (LLTBR) to determine their suitability for Training for Work services.

All referrals for Training for Work services must be made or approved by Work and Income staff.
